De 'P1 port splitter’ is een stand-alone module welke continu de digitale meter uitleest en vervolgens deze data zonder enige aanpassing doorgeeft naar de 3 actieve P1 poort uitgangen. Op deze 3 poorten kunnen gekoppelde P1 applicaties onafhankelijk van mekaar en elk op eigen tempo P1 meetwaarden opvragen. Elke uitgang heeft een 5 volt voeding (deze komt van de slimme meter of van de usb micro aansluiting). Bij oudere Nederlandse meters (Type 2 of3 ) met een P1 poort aan 9600 baud wordt automatisch de uitlees snelheid naar 115200 baud verhoogd. Bij deze meters is er sowieso een externe USB voeding nodig en afhankelijk van de belasting op de uitgang van de splitter is een externe USB voeding nodig voor versie 4/5 slimme meters. Opmerkingen: De Belgische digitale meters vooraf activeren om te kunnen werken: via deze link Als er op het scherm van de digitale meter een driehoekje boven “GP” staat (GP staat in lasermarking onder het scherm) dan zijn de poorten P1 en S1 actief. Betekenis van de LED: De groene led geeft aan dat er spanning op de splitter staat. Is deze uit dat zal de splitter niet functioneren. Knipperen is ook een indicatie dat er problemen zijn met de voeding. De blauwe ledjes boven de zwarte aansluitblokjes geven per uitgang aan dat er data aan het afnemende apparaat wordt aangeboden. Werking De splitter bevat een microprocessor. Deze leest en buffert alle p1 berichten. Zodra een afnemend toestel een bericht wil ontvangen, wordt het bericht uit de buffer doorgegeven. Wil het afnemende toestel continu een bericht dan zal dit op de snelheid van de slimme meter gebeuren (1s bij nieuwe en 10s bij oude meters). De uitgangen versterken het signaal meer dan 10x, hebben een voeding en communiceren altijd op 115.200 b/s. De splitter zal automatisch oude of nieuwe slimme meter detecteren en zich hierop aanpassen.
